This pie chart above clearly depicts the age distribution of Chinese online consumers. As is illustrated in the chart, in 2019, the percentage of online consumers aged from 20 to 40 was at the top of the list, accounting for 44% of the total. By contrast,online shoppers above 40 and under 19 occupied only 30% and 26% respectively.
At least two fundamental factors contribute to this phenomenon. First of all, it is universally acknowledged that the majority of Chinese netizens are born in the 1980s and 1990s, and consumers in these two age groups are easy to accept online shopping.What's more, their average income is the highest among different age groups and they have the economic capabilty to afford.the shopping. However, people above 40 are less familiar with Online shopping.Besides, healthcare spending takes up a big share of their income, and thus shopping takes up a comparatively small proportion. Those under the age of 19 are still students,whose income mainly comes from their parents. Compared with other age groups, they have relatively weak spending power.
Anyway online shopping has become a more and more popular consumption pattern, and I am firmIy convinced that this trend will develop further. In the near future, people of all age groups will more involved in online shopping.
