Trying to stand out from fierce competition, college students make their best endeavors to enhance their bargaining position. Among them is to gain certificates as many as possible.However,they fail to understand that there is an obvious gap between certificates and individual capabilities. Without identifying the real purpose of some certificates, students just follow the trend and maintain that more certificates ensure more opportunities, not realizing that certificates do not necessarily enhance their personal abilities.
As an old saying goes, "Jack of all trades and master of none. " College students are supposed to go deep into their own major and prepare themselves well with professional competence which is truly required by the job market. It is the actual specialized expertise a graduate could reveal that plays a decisive role in employer's decision, not the volume of certificates he possesses. Only improved individual abilities will serve the graduate as a bridge over the gulf that is exhibited by the above picture, and if without so many certificates, he might cross the bridge with more ease.
