The picture lively shows a conversation between the earth and a kid. The kid is asking for energy resources from the earth, but the earth replies with regret that its energy was already exhausted by his father generation.
What this picture intends to convey is that we are taking away in advance the energy resources that should have belonged to our descendants. The predictable energy shortage could be explained from two aspects. On the one hand, social development heavily depends on such fossil energy as oil and coal for a very long time.There is no formal limitation set against the volume that is allowed to exploit.Thus, simply in order to satisfy development demands, the energy exploitation goes in an uncontrolled manner. On the other hand, there is also a lack of motivation to develop new energy resources as the traditional energy seems to be inexhaustible in the short run.
However, we do have to understand that the traditional resources are definitely exhaustible and we need to spare a thought to the next generation. This requires us, firstly, to improve the energy using efficiency of every single molecule of the traditional resources.Secondly, and most importantly, we need strain every nerve to develop new energy technologies, for example to take advantage of solar energy and wind, to replace fossil energy. To win cheers from our kids is probably the only path we can follow.
